Zylkene is a completely natural product that is used to calm anxious pets without the drowsy hangover effects that pharmaceuticals such (as diazepam-Valium) might have.

Both dogs and cats can suffer fear or anxiety due to stressors like thunderstorms, fireworks, moving home, travel or staying in a boarding establishment. 


Zylkene capsules are a complementary supplement designed to help cats and dogs manage stressful situations. Zylkene is an all-natural, non-sedating, nutritional supplement, not a Pharmacutical product. How long until takes effect ? Depending on the size of the animal and the source of the anxiety, It will take a couple of days for the full effect of Zylkene to be felt. For example, if you know there will be fireworks on New Years Eve… start your pets on Zylkene at least two weeks before and after. It works best when in the system for an extended period.

How long will Zylkenes effects last ? This again depends on the size of the animal and the severity of the anxiety. Zylkene isn’t a pharmaceutical product so you won’t witness a clear start and finish of the effects. You will observe a calm and confident demeanour over a couple of days.

Can I overdose my pets by giving too much Zylkene ? It is important to follow the directions on the pack to ensure your pet is getting the correct dose. Naturally you should discuss with your vet before changing the dose.

Are there any side effects from using Zylkene ? There haven’t been any reported side effects of Zylkene in the clinical studies that have been conducted on cats and dogs. It’s non-addictive, non-sedating, and doesn’t have any known drug interactions. Zylkene doesn’t have any lactose, even though it’s derived from milk. It does have hydrolyzed casein in it though, so if your kitty is allergic to cow milk products, they might not tolerate zylkene well. Some mild gastrointestinal effects such as soft poop have occasionally been reported from animal owners. These tend to resolve on their own. If you see your pets experiencing this after you’ve given them Zylkene, you can reduce the dose to see if that helps make a difference.

How does it work for cats and dogs ? The simple answer… It tricks the receptors in the brain so they reduce excitability (anxiety.) The not so simple answer…Alpha-casozepine (the main active ingredient) is a natural biological substance derived from a protein in milk called casein. Alpha-casozepine is similar in structure to GABA (gamma-Aminobutyric acid). GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter that helps to calm the brain. Alpha-casozepine binds to GABA receptors in the brain and therefore mimics the effects of GABA. Zylkene can be used on either a short-term or long-term basis.

Zylkene isn’t a magic cure-all. They will help manage the symptoms of stress and anxiety. We recommend using in conjunction with a Thundershirt for cats and dogs or look at addressing the cause of the stress.

Dogs and cats up to 5kg: 1x 75mg capsule daily

Dogs and cats 5kg to 10kg: 2 x 75mg capsules daily

Dogs 10 to 15kg: 1 x 220mg capsule daily

Dogs 15 to 30kg: 2 x 220mg capsules daily

For short term use: Begin administration 1-2 days before the predicted event or change in environment. Some animals may need earlier administration (5-7 days).

For long term use: Start giving Zylkene for one month then reassess the pet. Association with a behaviour modification program may help in these situations.
